Looking for a photographer with professional skills and experience is a positive step towards the creation of lasting wedding memories. However, beautiful wedding photos are a combination of professional and creative photographic skills, effective communication between the client and the photographer, and an enjoyable experience on the day. We have put together some tips that may assist you.

1. Considerations Before Booking Other Requirements

Light is an important consideration for beautiful photographs. Check the sunset time of your chosen day and ensure that you allocate enough light to spend 1.5 to 2 hours (depending on locations and size of bridal party) with your photographer after your service and family photos.

With considerations for hair and makeup appointments, preparation time, pre service photos, service length, travel time, light for photos and reception start times everything can get a little confusing - We are happy to assist you map out a rough time guideline if required.

Service Photos - The service provides many opportunities to capture true candid moments of your wedding. As a note of caution, some churches do not allow photography during the service or may limit photographers by not allowing flash use or restricting movement to the rear of the church only. If this aspect of your photography is important please check guidelines before booking your service.

2. Booking Your Photographer

Book Early - Unlike service providers such as bridal wear designers and florists who can accommodate several weddings with the same date, many photographic studios have limited possibilities.

Ask Questions to ensure the photographer is professional and you understand exactly what the packages include.
EG: Do you use multiple cameras to accommodate for both Black & White and Colour simultaneously?

Is my album provided complete with prints or do further reprint charges apply?

Do you receive proofs or finished quality prints with each package?

Who is the photographer on the day?
(You don't want to be meeting your photographer for the first time at your wedding or be expecting someone else etc.)

Ask for an idea of reprint charges.

3. Communicate Your Style

Openly communicate your likes and dislikes when viewing sample albums.

Create a collection of photos from magazines that you like and discuss them with your photographer. It is sometimes more useful to collect ones that you dislike as these often stand out more and that style can be avoided on the day.

4. Your Wedding Day

Bring a list of all family combinations required for photographs if not provided prior to the day.

Bring face power & lipstick to touch up makeup throughout the day to reduce the possibility of shine and provide a quick refresh.

Consider having group photos with the complete bridal party at the location of the service so that younger members can then relax and join the other guests. Younger flowergirls and pageboys often get tired and frustrated with several location changes.

Bring drinks and possibly light snacks for the afternoon to ensure the bridal party remain hydrated & alert.
This also creates a fun atmosphere to complete the location photos.
